A gaze that changed my Life..

Three months after we met, he proposed and I said yes. I was a tomboyish 20 year old and he a handsome 29 year old, who reminded me of my late pa. I said yes. I thought our kids would look like my pa. Soon he proposed I wear abaya as I was his and his alone and I agreed. It seemed so romantic at that time.

We married, it was lovely or that’s what I thought it was.. He was short tempered and would snap at me for smallest of things. I started turning timid and very clumsy. The violence rushed in within weeks of marriage. For little or no reason he would lash at me and soon I started believing it was because of the way I do things. He made me believe I was wrong. And I believed it. read more

  •  Take a friend along.Having someone to talk to, and someone you trust to walk you through the process as it’s happening will work wonders. It’s especially helpful to have a friend if you’re getting a tattoo done on an area you can’t see, so they can keep you informed on the progress!
  • They are addictive!! So always take a breather between getting inked! I love my ink, and I’m have been forcing myself to wait a while before I get another one done. But now after 5 years, I feel it’s time I give in and get my next one..

Most importantly!! Be prepared to face these questions that will be thrown at you at least twice in a week: Can I touch it? Is that real? What does it mean? Does it hurt? Wanna see mine? So you are like a tough Chick or something?  read more

Pankaj Udhas : Live in Chennai!!

There is nothing like experiencing truly beautiful music played live.

While growing up, I was blessed with parents who were as diverse as the four directions(two sets of them, I was adopted within family). While my pa loved listening to Pink Floyd, Queen and John Lennon, my dad loved Ghazals and Sufi music. My mom would play Mohammed Rafi & Mukesh‘s classics and my ammi, illayraja‘s best!! No I can’t count my blessings.

Pankaj Udhas was a part of most of the drives and even before I know the meaning of maikada and ishq and mushq, I could sing all his songs by heart. read more

Get stuffed at The Right Place, The Residency.

Parantha. Paratha. Parauntha, Parota, barotta. No matter how you say it, paranthas have been an Indian breakfast staple since like, forever. They’re called Palata in Burma and farata in the Maldives. But all of us can proudly puff out our chests and say that paranthas actually originated from the Indian Subcontinent. They have conquered our hearts, taste buds & lunch boxes. They are the cheat codes our mums used to make us eat all the veggies we wouldn’t have any other way. Be it with butter, curd, pickle or plain, paranthas are just awesome.

There definitely is nothing like a freshly made paratha from the tawa straight onto your plate with a knob of butter!
